• The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. You need an anointing to minister for God

You need an anointing to minister for God

Exodus 40:13: And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.
The priest is to minister to God. What that means is that the priest serve as intermediary and sees to the relationship between God and the people. The priests serve the will of God when it comes to the spiritual link of the people to God.
The anointing is a divine quality, a quality of the Holy Spirit, who is God, the third person of the trinity (Acts 10:38, Matthew 28:19, 1John 5:7). It is the quantity control of heaven. It is the validation of the heavenly source. Just as a particular software has a signature to show that it is authentic (according to my crude understanding of things), the anointing is the divine signature of the source of what you output as a Christian (all Christians are now priests under the new covenant able to bring spiritual link to others: Christians and non-Christians alike [1Peter 2:9]), as opposed to the manifestation of the flesh.

While John was admonishing Christians in his letter against false teachers, he affirms that his audience are different because they have an anointing from the Holy One (1John 2:18-20), linking them with divine knowledge. Paul said the one who has anointed us is God (2Corinthians 1:21).

The anointing is not some mysterious thing. It is the divine authentication. While the writer of the book of Hebrews was talking about the gospel, he affirmed that the preaching of the gospel is validated by God through signs and wonders and distribution of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 2:3-4). Actually, the anointing is a quality of the Holy Spirit. So we see him validating the activities of the preachers, the ministers through the expression of himself.

Paul concerning his ministerial activity among the gentiles said his goal is to give God an offering of the gentiles sanctified with the Holy Ghost, authenticated by the express manifestation of the Holy Spirit, marked by the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:15-19).
Peter was, to put it very mildly, very hesitant to go into the house of Cornelius who would be the first among the gentiles to come to know the saving grace of Christ (Acts 10:1-48). After sometimes of speaking, the Holy Spirit came down on the gentiles. That, in way, was the offering of the gentiles, sanctified by the Holy Spirit, offering of the gentiles, burning with the fire of the Holy Spirit.

To minister on behalf of God, you must share his essence. You don’t want God telling you, I know you not, depart from me you workers of iniquity, workers of lawlessness (Matthew 7:21-23). It means whatever service we give for God must come out of our relationship with him, out of the anointing he has placed upon us.

Paul talks about the sphere of influence that God has given him (2Corinthians 10:13). That is the authorised reach of the anointing he works with. He said he is not presumptuous to try to extend beyond that. This is because whatever we give to God in the form of our service must bear the divine imprint.

The need for anointing to minister was really revealed when Paul ministry became really explosive in Ephesus and certain sons of Sceva (Acts 19:10-17), presumed to use the name of Jesus without the anointing. They had probably heard the words that Paul uses to cast out devils, loves the attention that results for such successful deliverance and wanted to try it themselves. Without the anointing they found out that Satan could eat them up for lunch.

It was for the same reason Jesus told his disciples to wait for the endowment with the Holy Spirit with power, with the anointing before they step out to become witness, performing divine services (Acts 1:8).

While Peter was writing about the expression of our gifts and calling, he said if any one ministers, let the person do it with the ability of God and if anyone speaks it should be as the mouth piece of God (1Peter 4:10-11). You were not meant to do the work of God without the anointing, otherwise it would be drudgery.

Speaking as the oracle of God takes the anointing, and working with the ability that God gives also takes an anointing. We are to be divine mediums. That is divine partnership, which is God working in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Philippians 2:13), otherwise whatever it is you output would not be to his pleasure.

Two sons of Aaron were killed by God by fire because they offered “strange fire before” Him (Leviticus 10:1-3).
The kind of fire they offered was not authorised, the kind of spiritual output that was not divine sanctioned. They offered strange fires before God.

Maybe they wanted to experiment; maybe they thought they had another opinion better that God’s. The effect was disastrous.
Jesus exhibited a perfect union with God affirming that it was what he saw the father do that he does (John 10:32, 14:10-11). His mission and mandate was very clear to him, the Holy Spirit was upon him and he carried out the mind of God. And Jesus said as the father sent him so he sends us. God did not send him without the anointing so also us we are not go forth in the ministerial mandate except by the anointing.

Writing to Timothy, Paul said God has not given him the spirit of fear, but the Spirit of power, of love and sound mind, all in the context of being ministers of God (2Timothy 1:7).
Ultimately it is the divine outflows from us that matters; not personal exhibition. Jesus Christ said that because he casts out devils by the Spirit of God, the kingdom of God has come near to the people (Luke 11:20). He was casting out devils according to the will of God, and he uses the finger of God. The divine fingerprint, the anointing was all over that exhibit, all over the miracles, the “crime scene”.

God is therefore culpable. Though you didn’t see him personally on the scene; it was God all the way. And that is what God wants; that all glory will be to him; that no flesh will glory before him (1Corinthians 1:29). The anointing serves as the divine quality control.
You are not to release anything in the name of God without the anointing certifying it.
Another aspect of ministering with the anointing of God is the fact that you minster with the motivation of heaven.

Since the anointing is a divine quality, it does not just means getting result, it also means flowing with God, being linked with his passion and motivation, being, as Paul would call it, begin fellow workers with God (1Corinthians 3:9).
To not be in connection with the anointing is to lose our sense of purpose. That was what happened to John the Baptist. His mission was to recognise and showcase Jesus, but the hardship he fell into, being imprisoned, caused him to lose connection with his calling losing the ability to recognise who Jesus Christ is. He could not connect with purpose of God for his time and that meant his time was up.

Not ministering with the anointing had disastrous consequences for John the Baptist, for the seven sons of Sceva and for the two sons of Aaron. Don’t be numbered with them. There is no substitute to connecting with God, to the anointing, the heavenly quality in whatever we do to bring blessing to others and to glorify God.
