PURPOSE OF THE FIVE FOLD MINISTRIES
Why is the five fold ministry needed in the Body of Christ? Most of the believers are ignorant of the five fold ministry. This five fold ministry is necessary in the body of Christ to accomplish the plan of God inside the church, and through the church.
"And he gave some Apostles : and some Prophets ; and some Evangelists ; some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the Edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come to the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the son of god unto a perfect man, until the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ" Eph 4:11-13
Five fold ministry exists in the Body to fulfill the three major purposes
"That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish". .
Eph 5: 27
Perfection of the Body is progressive. God perfects the saints in the body of Christ through the fire fold ministry. To attain the perfection in our personal lives, and in our ministry, weall have to expose ourselves to these five ministries. Why should we be content in our perfection? Why should we do imperfect ministries? We have neglected the five fold ministry enough in our churches. Unless we expose ourselves to these five ministries we cannot reach the perfection of Christ. Even the ministers should expose themselves to the five fold ministry for their perfection.
All believers have the responsibility and freedom to receive the perfection through Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, pastors and teachers. Perfection of every saint affects the perfection of the whole Body of Christ. To construct a building, different kinds of tradesmen work together; until unless all sort of workers do their work the building will be imperfect. "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection........ "Heb6:1
Work of the Ministry
The work of the ministry is not only evangelism but it includes all kinds of ministry that God has placed in the church. The church needs the five classes of gifted persons - Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Shepherds and Teacher s... to train the saints for the ministry.
A local church may be successful in evangelism without having the five fold ministry: but the believers of that church cannot be equipped for specific ministry. If there is no Apostle in a Local church. How can anyone, who got the calling for Apostolic Ministry, be trained for that ministry? Local church is supposed to be the training, centre for the saints.
Do we acknowledge the five fold ministry in our local churches? Where are the Apostles, prophets, Evangelists and Teachers in our churches? See the first century local churches. "Now there were in the church that was at Antiocn certain Prophets and Teachers: as Barnabas and simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of cy-rene, and Manaen, which had been brought within Herod the tatrach, and saul. "Acts 13:1. There were five prophets and Teachers in Antiocn church. What about our churches? Paul wrote to Corinthiar. Church, "let the PROPHETRS speak two or three, and let the other judge" 1 Cor 14:29 which reveals that there were more than three prophets in that church.
New Testament Ministry is not one man ministry. It is a corporate ministry. When the Five Fold ministry is harmoniously operative, all the saints will be trained and equipped to do what god wants them do.
Edifying of the body of Christ
Edifying means building up. Through the five fold ministry, Holy spirit builds up the whole body of Christ, which is unique and universal.
The universal body of Christ is not a human organization, nor it is a domination; but it is an organism, which is being built up for the lord. All the local churches are members of the universal body of Christ. To build his body, Christ Jesus uses the five fold ministry.
God supplies balanced food through these five gifted persons to all saints. Perhaps, the body of the Lord is to be nournisned by the balanced food just like our physical body.
Do we get the spiritual nourishment through the five fold ministry? Most of us receive only one kind of nourishment from one man ministry which affects our spiritual growth so much. Many are overdosed by one man ministry. But the Lord nourishes and cherishes his body through the five fold ministry (Eph 5:29) Don't we have the right to receive the Full Nourishment from the HEAD (Jesus Christ) through the five fold ministry?
God wants that we may grow up into Jesus Christ in ALL THINGS (Eph 4:15) yes, we have to grow up into the fullness of Christ and this is possible when we expose our self to the five fold ministry.
Function of the every member in the Body is also important for the corporate building up of the universal church. "Out from whom all the Body, fitted and knit together through every joint of the supply according to the operation in measure of each one part, causes the growth of the Body unto the iiding up of itself in love" Eph 4: 16 (Recovery Version)
It is God's plan that the Church must grow into a perfect MAN-- unto the Measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Eph 4:13. Building up of the Church is more important than its growth in number.
The whole structure of the New Testament ministry is based on the five fold ministry. Let us encourage the five fold ministry in our local churches. Let the five fold ministry be restored in our churches.
